Curator's choice.
These are the pictures I chose for Curator's choice, and the descriptions I wrote for them. I started to think about internships and volunteering when I was applying for a job as a manager of a night art cafe in Manchester. I thought to myself, is all my volunteering worth it when all they asked was about my bar skills? My volunteering list on my CV is almost twice the length of my job list and I sometimes wonder whether it's worth it. Some work like my Junction 49 work is so rewarding. I'm learning about fund-raising, advertising, managing a major project and most importantly getting money for the arts which is almost unheard of these days. I've read a lot of articles for and against, and although I slave myself over cutting titles for paintings for no money, I do think it's as much as you put into it. For instance the curator at the Worthing Museum is now working at a contemporary art gallery in Chichester, something that I could maybe contact her in the future about. Junction 49 has lead me onto many possibilities such as gaining awards, being an online mentor and like I said before learning skills that will be useful in the curatorial field of work. I want to get in, and I guess making contacts through volunteering is the most important aspect of getting noticed.
Article. Article.
